| The female can be seen in this photo devouring the slugs. This occurs fairly commonly with Rainbow Boas. It has been observed in many boas but is generally not as common in other species as it is in Rainbow Boas. There are a couple of theories about why females do this. One theory is that they do it to replace nutrition lost during gestation and parturition. Another theory is that the purpose of this is to remove these slugs so that they will not decompose and attract predators to the vulnerable small babies. |
